WHY I CHOSE JOGA

MY JOGA
STORY

As an athlete myself (hockey, volleyball, basketball, softball) I have always wanted to find ways to better my performance − It was suggested over 10 years ago I try yoga − I attended a class and it was difficult. I found I was impatient with my body, my mind, my teacher, YOGA in general, I couldn’t do half of the poses they wanted me to do because my body was so tight. As an athlete I’ve always been a go hard and fast physical person. Never slow and paying attention to my quality of movement. It was all about building muscle and force more into that hour workout, thinking that would help me. I then took a Yoga for Athletes training because although the previous yoga trainings and classes were a rip into my ego, I craved the movement and connection of “yoga” physically and mentally. My muscles craving the stretching but most importantly my “soul” being awakened to the feelings of calmness, relaxation and connection to myself − Yoga came into my life so I could connect. JOGA came into my life so I could finally relate.

WHY JOGA WORKS

CONNECTION

Why JOGA? To create a greater awareness and CONNECTION to an athletes mind & body and to share the importance of connection, movement and the quality of breath. You must pair them all together! I have developed over the years a passion for injury prevention and recovery and really view connection to the self so healing. Our bodies and minds are so intelligent we just have to spend more time understanding it, adapting to strategies that make us feel better and becoming more aware. Take charge of your body and your mind. Make it easy, change your dialogue with yourself and make feeling good a priority. It truly is mazing how much your body whispers to you about what it needs or wants – the problem is we need to silence the ego and slow our bodies and minds down to hear. JOGA is about connecting to the spine and letting the core drive the movements; using this as a reminder that when everything is stripped away, the core of who we are is what’s left. Work it. Feel. it. Tune it. Listen. Use it to connect to something deep within.

WHO’S DOING JOGA

YOGA FOR
ATHLETES

I have worked and been working with hockey players from Mite to semi-professional level here in East Central Alberta. I have just recently this year introduced JOGA, which is a movement system that combines the breath and relaxation techniques of yoga combined with the biomechanics of sports to the  Jr. A hockey Team, Camrose Kodiaks to promote mobility and stability as well as proper core integration making it an excellent active recovery tool or foundation for sport. My Mission is to use JOGA  and my previous yoga experience  to coach athletes on connecting to their physical body and breath.  Getting them to slow down, pay attention to the quality of their breath and movement, this in turn will teach them how to recover faster with the control of breath and  find a balance in strength and flexibility.

I”m so excited to be a part of something that has become such a global success. There is nothing like this program out there and what excites me the most is working together with like-minded individuals pushing each other to reach their potential; to learn, grow and invest in ourselves.  This program motivates me so much.
